Is insurance necessary for Amazon sellers?

As a requirement, Amazon requires sellers who have a Pro Merchant account and gross sales of at least $10,000 to carry general liability insurance.

It's still a good idea to get insurance even if you aren't a Pro Merchant on Amazon. It can help protect your business if anything goes wrong.

What does general liability cover?

Bodily Injury

In the event that a customer (or another third-party) is injured on your property, you may be responsible for the medical expenses incurred and any damages sustained.

Personal and Advertising Injury

If you receive a complaint from a customer (or a third party) alleging that you damaged their reputation or plagiarized their intellectual property, regardless of the validity of the claim, you may have to retain a lawyer and pay additional legal costs.

Property Damage

In the event that your business accidentally damages another's property, you may be responsible for paying for the repair or replacement costs.
